Uta (Oo'tah) Birkmayer, founder of Xsense will discuss meaningful place making and how to connect people and places.

SLOCAMA) welcomes interested business professionals to their next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, July 15th at 5:30pm. This month's featured speaker is experiential designer, Uta Birkmeyer. In her presentation Uta will discuss how connecting PEOPLE and PLACES starts by identifying touchpoints that may be inspired by the history, geology, food, celebrations, indigenous traditions, health practices, music and all the things that make up the authentic root of a place. Sustainability and community relations are key concepts in our work and though we may be driven to those issues because of our worldview, we derive great satisfaction in proving over and over again that sustainability makes sound economic sense as does a deeply rooted true story that eliminates obsolescence and the need to reinvent a fabricated theme every 7 years.

Uta (Oo'tah) Birkmayer, Founder of Xsense, has been creating memorable and transformative client experiences for developers and corporations all over the world for over fifteen years. Holding a masters degree in Hospitality from Cornell University, she has a well-earned reputation for successfully bringing her unique visionary skills to the aid of businesses seeking to provide extraordinary product and service experiences to their client base. She is highly regarded as an expert in the arena of experiential design, approaching each new client project with an insight and creativity unmatched in this burgeoning industry

SLOCAMA endeavors to bring local communications professionals together to collaborate on projects and to offer a forum for networking and educational seminars related to marketing. The group was formed in 2004 and has 75 active members.

Membership dues are $50 per year for individuals, $35 for students and $150 for companies (cost depends on number of memberships desired), and includes upcoming mixers and educational seminars, dates and topics to be announced. Meetings are on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm at

Pierre moved to San Luis Obispo in 1972 to found the graphic design program at Cal Poly after working in San Francisco and Los Angeles. He founded Pierre Rademaker Design in 1980, and the studio has grown considerably under his direction. His work has received awards from Communication Arts, Print, and Graphis magazines. Pierre has an M.F.A. from Syracuse University and a B.A. from Cal State Long Beach.

Pierre will discuss the basics of establishing a fair price for your creative services.   Topics include:

• calculating hourly rates
• preparing project estimates
• reviewing profitability
• determining efficiency factors.  

With over 35 years of survival in the design field Pierre brings a practical approach to managing your creative services business.

Dr. Tom Sant will share research and examples from his new book, The Language of Success, pinpointing why some messages fail and others jump right off the page to get things done.

This month's featured speaker is best selling author and expert on business communication, Dr. Tom Sant. In his presentation Tom will explain why the pseudo-languages fail and will explain five simple principles that can transform even the ugliest writing into a thing of beauty.

Tom Sant has been a stand-up comic, a college professor, and CEO of a software corporation that developed one of the most innovative and successful sales automation solutions in the world.  

Tom received his Ph.D. from UCLA and taught at the University of Cincinnati before starting his own consulting business.  Over the past 30 years he has worked with many of the world's largest companies, generating bottom-line results and writing over $30 billion worth of winning proposals himself.

EXPLORE SOCIAL NETWORKING AT FEBRUARY SLOCAMA MEETING


SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA - Social Networking sites have exploded in popularity over the last few years and local businesses are taking note. The only problem is they don't know where to start!

On Tuesday, February 19th at 5:30 pm, the San Luis Obispo Creative and Marketing Alliance will welcome Social Media expert, Rob Dumouchel of Grover Beach based
Systems & Marketing Solutions, to its February meeting to be held at Aspect Studios, 755 Fiero Lane, Suite 110 in San Luis Obispo. Rob will break down the concept of Social Networking, talk about the finer points of some of the bigger networks, show ways to leverage these sites for your business, and take questions from the audience.This meeting is free and open to the public.

In preparation for the meeting Rob has set up some Social Networking groups and profiles just for SLOCAMA and its members!

Rob Dumouchel a partner in Systems & Marketing Solutions (SMS), an Internet Marketing firm based in Grover Beach, CA. Rob specializes in Search Engine Marketing with a focus on Google Adwords and other Pay Per Click platforms, and Social Media marketing.
